March has seemed so long and stressful that I have to admit I'm a bit shocked that it's the end of it! Let's raise a toast to the bravery of those many heroes working to keep us safe, from healthcare workers to grocery store clerks to delivery drivers and more! I am so grateful for their bravery and kindness. 💚 . ✨ These little glasses hold "Periodot," which is my name for a Pacific Northwest version of Chartreuse. Chartreuse holds a lot of intrigue – a mysterious green liquor sparkling with clarity and infused with the healing powers of over a hundred different herbs… it sounds like a potion out of a fairytale! This sweet and herbal libation is mysteriously brewed by Carthusian monks in the mountains of France. Legend tells that only two monks know the recipe of an impressive 130 botanicals that go into making this famous liqueur. The formula is believed to have been invented by a 16th century herbalist or alchemist and it has remained shrouded in secrecy ever since. It was called “The Elixir of Long Life,” and was meant first as a sort of medicine, as most (if not all) herbal liquors were at their origins. . ✨ If you have access to a garden or woodlands or even just your own pantry, you can create your own dynamic and complex herbal liquor too! You can create it to taste, out of the plants that you know and love. Your own brew will take on new flavors as you tweak your recipe, add new plants, and experiment with percentages. But even if you were to keep everything exactly the same and keep immaculately precise notes and measurements, you’d still get a different product every year, because plants naturally take on different flavors and scents depending on many factors. Embrace the diversity and pour yourself a glass of springtime! You can find full instructions on my blog (link in profile – just search for "peridot.") Are you interested in learning how to forage your own wild food but don't know where to begin? 🌿 I'm here to help! At the bottom of all of my blog posts you will see "New to foraging? Learn more about ethical and safe foraging (plus how to get started) here!" Click that link to take you to a post with my guidelines to getting started, a list of some of my favorite resources, and a little bit more about how I get acquainted with each plant I harvest. Foraging is such a beautiful way to become more intimate with seasonality and changing landscapes! It can be intimidating at first ("What if I eat the wrong mushroom? What should I do about wildlife threats?), especially if you haven't spent much time in the wilderness. I want to tell you that foraging is perfectly safe as long as you follow some guidelines and stay 100% confident in your identification of wild plants. Dip your toes in with the "weeds" sprouting up in community gardens and backyards – purslane, dandelion, chickweed, and wild mallow. Venture a little further for nettles, lemon balm, and wild asparagus. The post will expand on these suggestions. You can find a link to my blog in my profile. Happy Foraging, everyone! . ✨✨✨ . #foraging #forager #beginnerforager #foraging101 #wildcrafting #wildfoodlove #fiddleheadferns #foragingforbeginners #wonderofwilderness #getoutside #foraginglifestyle #plantmagic #plantsaremagic #thewondersmith #misswondersmith

Anybody wondering what I made with the pink oyster mushrooms I grew? 🍄💕 Delicious plant-based burgers, that's what! Soft pink burger buns, flavorful mushroom filling, tahini-cilantro white sauce, pickled onions, avocado, and fresh greens – what's not to love?! These came together surprisingly easily and were an immediate hit with anyone I fed them to, meat eaters or not. The process of interacting with the mushrooms I grew myself also really got me thinking about the incredible magic of mycelium and how it serves a really important metaphor in my own life: that even when we are struggling and maybe not feeling very productive or creative, inside us ideas are secretly growing and developing. Just like how scratching and watering a block of mycelium will bring forth a wild bursting of mushrooms, we too can come bursting forth with more energy and passion than we realize when our reality changes to allow it. Anyways, if you're hungry for a delicious meal or feeling the need from some more poetic nourishment, you can find both on my blog (link in profile.) 😘 No matter where you are in life right now or what you are up against, I hope you can be kind to yourself. We all need periods of inner growth, and they often happen when we least expect them to. 💕 . ✨✨✨ . #pinkoystermushrooms #mushroomburger #thrivemagazine #plantbased #veganburger #plantbasedburger #oystermushrooms #mushroomburger #mushroomsandwich #fancyhamburger #foraged #wildcrafted #wildfoodlove #thewondersmith #misswondersmith #colorfulfood #pinkfood #millenialpink #culinarymagic #kitchenmagic #onmytable #bestofvegan #instavegan #plantbasediet #mushroommagic #mushroomsarecool
